Ongoing Projects

  • CULTURE FOR REFUGEES

Culture is the pillar of life in fostering effective communication, integrity, integration in diversity and a dynamic tool of entertainment. Culture has its footprints in the happiness of life especially through art, language, history and other social spheres. Refugees and migration are both linked to culture both in practice and theory. The journey of immigrants and refugees links the stories to their daily lives to culture. Their over-riding philosophy of culture is that it benefits you and you credit it, culture is celebrated as the means of life.

Refugees have become part and parcel of culture as they seek to settle in other countries. Despite facing racism and other forms of discrimination they are still able to inspire and extend a sense of belonging to those with no identity. Refugee cultural identity continues to draw interest across various sectors and may grow to an interesting field of study.

Everyone has a right to be subject and relevant to self while staying accountable to the society. But having a refugee background continues to threaten this very right, separating people from their families, their culture, shuttering dreams and deny access to education. We practice various forms of art from dance, songs and theater performance on the project we have named “culture for refugees.

Aims of the project achieve; –

-Raise awareness and share information on legal ways to migrate to Europe

-Educate African kids from Europe especially Germany on African history and culture.

-To share our true story of migration across the Sahara Desert to Europe and preserve this experience in history books

  • VOICE OF REFUGEES

Through this project, refugees from African countries will build their capacities in expressing their experiences as refugees regarding their journey and life in Europe and perceptions on societal issues through creative arts (music, movie, storytelling). As a result, they will produce songs, stories, a motivational speech and a movie currently in production stages.

It as well features discussions on the art works with young people and policy makers. This will contribute to raising awareness of our situation, diminishing stereotypes, and fostering their participation in democratic life.

Workshops within the project are developed and piloted to discuss refugee experiences, perceptions and related art work with young people. This provides the basis for to continuation of the workshops after the end of the project and become multipliers.

Aims of the project: –

– Facilitating opportunities and building capacities of refugees from African countries to engage and become empowered to participate in civic society and democratic life through cultural expression.
